A Lot About You
You are an experienced mobile client engineer who welcomes the challenge of taking a beloved consumer app to the next level. You are comfortable being one of the first members of a newly formed team. You love to collaborate with product designers to understand customer problems and deliver great user experiences. You are highly self-sufficient but also thrive when working together with teammates. And you enjoy sprints as much as strategy.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with a small team to design, define, build, and deliver new features in the Yahoo Weather Android app
Code – you will spend most of your time writing native code (Kotlin), including new feature development, architecture, unit tests, refactors, and bug fixes
Share responsibilities like app architecture/design reviews, code reviews, performance tuning, and build pipeline management
Own and deliver – from the small must-do tasks to larger, complex projects with many moving parts
Act as a key collaborator, resolving conflicts and building consensus – both within your own team and cross-functionally with other teams
Share your opinions and help shape our technical direction, best practices, product ideas, and team processes, we value and depend on your input
Minimum Qualifications:
8+ years experience building and shipping native Android apps
Excellent coding skills and practitioner of mobile development best practices, including object-oriented design principles; design pattern usage; writing modular, reusable, testable code; data structures; concurrency; performance profiling and tuning
Proficiency in Kotlin, Android Studio, Android Platform Tools, Jetpack, git – all of the skills, tools, libraries and languages needed to build and support Android apps
A willingness to learn Java and React Native for collaborating with the Weather web team
Excellent analytical, problem solving, and debugging skills
The quintessential teammate – great communicator, adaptable, supportive, hard working, and enjoys a good laugh
Preferred Qualifications:
BS in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent CS training
Located in the Eastern Timezone (EST)
An interest in weather is a big plus!
