What we do:

The Integrated Simulation Systems team is seeking a Principal Aerospace Software Engineer to lead simulation development efforts for their FSTD program. This position requires extensive experience in software engineering and simulation systems modelling in aerospace settings. As a Principal Aerospace Software Engineer, you will lead simulation development efforts in R&D, functional simulation, and integration. You will work with the Head of Integrated Simulation Systems. In addition, you will serve as a trusted advisor to the Supernal Deputy CTO and Chief Engineer on critical modelling and simulation efforts. You will also have a dotted report line to the Chief Architect of the Integrated Simulation Systems team.

This position will be required to work on-site 5 days a week.

What you can do:

  • Lead simulation team’s technical strategy and engineering effort on building foundation models for aerospace and advanced air mobility use cases
  • Lead the development of the simulation engine and tools for advanced air mobility research and development
  • Design, develop, and maintain software systems
  • Develop and implement software development standard processes
  • Ensure the scalability, reliability, and security of our software systems
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in software development
  • Collaborate with engineering teams across the company to help develop a well-architected integrated simulation framework
  • Collaborate with R&D teams on a range of critical projects
  • Provide domain expertise through the complete lifecycle of software features
  • Provide subject matter expert-level guidance for all Simulation Systems and programs
  • Support maintenance and improvement of software development standards and processes
  • Support maintenance of a real-time flight simulation environment
  • Support model updates based on flight test data
  • Support requirement verification activities in various engineering subject areas
  • Partner with PMO organization to implement build plan
  • Up to 10% of domestic and international travel
  • Other duties as assigned

What you can contribute:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field required; Master’s degree or Ph.D. preferred
  • Minimum twenty (20) years of experience in software engineering, simulation and modeling, and integration experience in aerospace or related settings (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
  • Experience in developing reference autonomy stack from scratch, including inner and outer loop controllers, trajectory generation, and/or flight route/profile planning
  • Strong programming skills in C++ and Rust or Python
  • Ability to architect, develop, and refactor large codebase and complex mix of software tools
  • Knowledge of a wide range of simulation and modelling tools used in aerospace settings
  • Knowledge of flight simulation implementation, including efficient coding, multi-vehicle simulation, UX, and networking
  • Knowledge of flight simulation applications, including fast-time simulation, hardware-in-the-loop, cockpit display integration, and controller input
  • Knowledge of flight dynamic modeling, including fixed-wing or rotorcraft aerodynamics, rigid body equations, and trimming
  • Knowledge of aircraft navigation concepts, including various altitudes, speeds, pressure, and navigation equations
  • Knowledge of aircraft avionics, including flight instruments, displays, navigation equipment, and surveillance technologies
  • Knowledge of aviation environment, including airport environment, air traffic control, atmosphere model, and meteorology
  • Proficiency in dynamical systems, including but not limited to vehicles, motors, or other mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of Simulink, with the ability to handle complex models, scripting, and test automation
  • Knowledge of MBSE modeling and diagramming tools, such as Cameo
  • Knowledge of aircr
