Position Summary

A postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Nardhy Gomez-Lopez’s laboratory at Washington University School of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Center for Reproductive Health Sciences. The chosen candidate will play a critical role in advancing research projects and ensuring the successful completion of scientific studies.

Dr. Gomez-Lopez’s research is primarily focused on the immunological pathways that lead to obstetrical disorders, with the goals of improving the understanding of the mechanisms of disease and of developing methods for the early diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of pregnancy complications. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The primary duties of this position will encompass both dry and wet lab operations.

Dry Lab Operations

• Work with large datasets, including, but not limited to, single-cell RNA sequencing, bulk transcriptomics, microbiome, and proteomics.
• Perform appropriate statistical analyses to address relevant scientific questions in accordance with the study design.
• Generate figures and contribute to the preparation of manuscripts from analyzed datasets.

Wet Lab Operations

• Conduct molecular biology experiments.
• Handle and experiment with animals.
• Perform molecular imaging and microscopy.

Additional Responsibilities

• Provide meaningful contributions to the experimental design of new projects.
• Collaborate with researchers from diverse backgrounds to successfully complete projects.
• Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong background in computational biology
• Experience from a prior pre-doctoral position focused on computational biology.  
• Mastery of current analytical tools and best practices for working with commonly utilized big data types
• Willingness to adopt and master new computational tools to process and analyze data generated from emerging technologies such as spatial transcriptomics
• Demonstrated ability to generate high-quality figures as well as contribute to manuscripts and grant applications
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Salary Range

Base pay is commensurate with experience.
