The Molecules to Manufacturing Lab (M2M) at the University of Tennessee, in partnership with the UT Space Institute, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position. Our lab focuses on understanding the intricate chemical and chemical-induced changes that occur during material processing. These phenomena are pivotal in various manufacturing processes, including:
- High -Temperature Composite Processing: Investigating how temperature affects polymer evolution in various composite systems.
- Ceramics Processing: Exploring how chemical processes during densification affect final properties.
We employ a combination of advanced wet chemistry techniques, custom processing equipment, and cutting-edge monitoring tools to unravel the relationships between chemistry and material performance.
- Conduct research on the chemical transformations occurring during material processing.
- Develop and optimize wet chemistry techniques, such as titrations and polymer synthesis, to support manufacturing studies.
- Utilize and innovate with custom processing equipment, including additive manufacturing systems and fiber-spinning apparatuses.
- Implement in-situ monitoring and data collection strategies to study real-time chemical and physical changes during processing.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams within the University and with external partners.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Expertise in wet chemistry techniques and material characterization methods.
- Familiarity with additive manufacturing or fiber-spinning technologies is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical skills, with experience in in-situ monitoring and data collection methods.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
