About the team:

You'll be joining a distributed team of software and platform engineers to have a multiplicative impact on other teams as we redefine CI/CD at Elastic. The CI team’s mission is to provide fast and reliable continuous integration services to over 850 Elastic engineers. We enable our product teams to deliver the high quality software that helps our users to Search, Observe & Protect.

Our platform is evolving, and so is our approach to CI – we're creating rich services that weave GitHub, Buildkite, Vault, K8s, Backstage.io, GCP, AWS, MacStadium Orka, and more together into a developer platform that is easy to understand for teams of engineers. We're forming a team focused on learning and continuous improvement.

What you will be doing:

  • Building fast and resilient event-driven services for CI agent infrastructure at scale. We orchestrate compute across K8s, EC2, GCE, and Orka.
  • Enhancing and creating tools and automation that solves problems while abstracting complexity away from the end user.
  • Maintaining IaC like Terraform, Ansible, Containerfiles, Helm charts, and Packer templates and adapting them to frameworks such as CDKTF.
  • Crafting clean and fast CI/CD pipelines that set an example for other engineers on how to build, quality-check, and ship code.
  • Writing documentation that is inclusive, clear, and useful to engineers and operators of varying abilities and skill levels.
  • Participating in On-Call support (e.g. PagerDuty) and incident response for the services you maintain and build.

What you bring along:

  • You're comfortable with at least one programming language. You're quick to learn unfamiliar tools because you value the right tool for the situation over preference.
  • You have 1-3 years tertiary, open source, or industry software development experience, and ideally some knowledge of Linux systems, networking, monitoring, and automation.
  • You may have written good APIs, designed queuing and pub/sub systems, or crafted resilient services that can scale (and retry) when they need to.
  • Clean code comes naturally to you, and you can advocate for when something needs to be DRY. You love to tinker, experiment and improve.
  • You value developer experience, and might draw inspiration from other tools like rustc, Poetry, k8s, or gcloud.
