Job Description

The Phlebotomy Lead is the front-line representative of Laboratory Services and is responsible for:
1) Blood sample collection by venipuncture, heel stick, and finger stick.
2) Properly identifying patients prior to performing blood collection.
3) Following Laboratory protocols and procedures for blood collection.
4) Entering collection and other information into Laboratory Information System.
5) Ensuring that collected specimens are delivered to appropriate Laboratory department.
6) Maintaining properly stocked supplies on phlebotomy cart or tray and supply room.
7) Operating and performing patient testing on Point-of-Care Laboratory Instruments.
8) Assisting with receiving specimens from Tube System and distributing specimens to correct department.
8) Training new-hire and student phlebotomist.
9) Good customer service skills.
10) Scheduling and coverage for the respective work areas.
11) Ensuring completion of training/competency documentation for care team members in the assigned work area                                                                             12) Monitoring at least one Performance Improvement project annually               13) Attending meetings and participation on councils as assigned                         14) Other duties assigned by Laboratory Manager or Director

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.  

Experience: 2 Years work experience in phlebotomy required.  

Credentials:  

  • Completed Accredited Phlebotomy Certificate Course.  
  • Certification thru ASCP, NHA or AMT needed.
