Pharmacy Tech I PRN Rotating Position Summary

Assist the Pharmacist in the performance of the pharmacy daily routine. This shall be carried out in accordance with all state and federal laws, JCAHO Standards, and hospital or departmental policies and procedures.

THE PHARMACY TECH I PRN Rotating CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING EDUCATION, LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE.

Education:
1. High school graduate or equivalent, with clerical and science courses preferred.
2. Pharmacy Technician Certification required.

Experience:
1. Two to four years experience in hospital pharmacy preferred. Licensed Practical Nurse may be substituted for pharmacy experience.

This individual’s responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Accurately fill and label medication orders with correct strength, dosage form, and quantity in a timely manner. Accurately stock automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs) in a timely manner. Fill/refill emergency crash carts, boxes, and kits timely and accurately. Re-package and label oral medications/extemporaneous preparations and maintain appropriate records. Respond appropriately to requests for STAT orders, routine orders, department requests, and ADC stock out bulletins. Assure all medications are checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing. Stock medications into pharmacy inventory, including sterile compounding areas. Maintain adequate medication stock levels and proper storage of medications. Deliver medications to patient care areas. Attend to medication requests and phone calls. Prepare simple IV admixtures (excluding chemotherapy, biotherapy) accurately, consistent with IV policies and procedures (USPless than797> and USPless than800>). Comply with state and federal regulatory requirements, Joint Commission standards and Tenet and hospital policies and procedures. Assist in performing various duties as assigned.

Education:

Required: High school graduate or equivalent

Experience:

Required: Must be 18 years of age
Preferred: Hospital experience

Certifications:

Required: Registered Pharmacy Technician license/certification, as required by state law.
Preferred: Accredited training in sterile products preparation and IV Admixture Certification

Physical Demands:
