Pharmacy Tech I PRN Rotating Position Summary
Assists the pharmacist in the preparation and delivery of medications to hospitalized patients in such a manner that will provide the optimum quantity and quality of care. To assist the pharmacist with non- professional duties to ensure that the Pharmacy Department will be in full compliance with all state, federal, DHEC, and Board of Pharmacy laws, rules and regulations.

 

THE PHARMACY TECH I PRN ROTATING CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING EDUCATION, LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE.

Education/Other Qualifications 
1. High school graduate or equivalent.   
2. Must have completed pharmacy technician training or have Pharmacy Technician Certification. 
3. Must be able to use computer, unit dose packaging machine and hyperalimentation base compounding machine.   
4. Must possess the ability to work with sustained attention, concentration and carefulness on routine and repetitious tasks and assignments.

This individual’s responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Accurately fill and label medication orders with correct strength, dosage form, and quantity in a timely manner. Accurately stock automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs) in a timely manner. Fill/refill emergency crash carts, boxes, and kits timely and accurately. Re-package and label oral medications/extemporaneous preparations and maintain appropriate records. Respond appropriately to requests for STAT orders, routine orders, department requests, and ADC stock out bulletins. Assure all medications are checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing. Stock medications into pharmacy inventory, including sterile compounding areas. Maintain adequate medication stock levels and proper storage of medications. Deliver medications to patient care areas. Attend to medication requests and phone calls. Prepare simple IV admixtures (excluding chemotherapy, biotherapy) accurately, consistent with IV policies and procedures (USPless than797> and USPless than800>). Comply with state and federal regulatory requirements, Joint Commission standards and Tenet and hospital policies and procedures. Assist in performing various duties as assigned.

Education:

Required: High school graduate or equivalent

Experience:

Required: Must be 18 years of age
Preferred: Hospital experience

Certifications:

Required: Registered Pharmacy Technician license/certification, as required by state law.
Preferred: Accredited training in sterile products preparation and IV Admixture Certification

Physical Demands:

Lift/position up to 50 lbs. Push/pull up to 50 lbs. of force. Frequent standing and walking. Frequent reaching, stooping, and bending. Manual dexterity, mobility, touch, auditory to perform all the related duties of the position
