Title:  Per Diem Nursing Assistant

Department:  7th Floor

Hospital:  New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai

Schedule:  As needed

 

A certified nursing assistant’s primary responsibility is to assist patients with their daily activities. As a CNA, you also serve as a conduit between nurses, doctors and patients and record and communicate all issues to medical staff.

Roles & Responsibilities:

 

  1. Provides patients' personal hygiene by giving bedpans, urinals, baths, backrubs, shampoos, and shaves; assisting with travel to the bathroom; helping with showers and baths.    
  2. Provides for activities of daily living by assisting with serving meals, feeding patients as necessary; ambulating, turning, and positioning patients; providing fresh water and nourishment between meals.              
  3. Provides adjunct care by administering enemas, douches, nonsterile dressings, surgical preps, ice packs, heat treatments, sitz and therapeutic baths; applying restraints.            
  4. Maintains patient stability by checking vital signs and weight; testing urine; recording intake and output information.        
  5. Provides patient comfort by utilizing resources and materials; transporting patients; answering patients' call lights and requests; reporting observations of the patient to nursing supervisor.  
  6. Documents actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records.                        
  7. Maintains work operations by following policies and procedures.                              
  8. Protects organization's value by keeping patient information confidential.                            
  9. Serves and protects the hospital community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and specific standards.             
  10. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; participating in professional organizations; maintaining licensure.               
  11. Enhances nursing department and hospital reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

 

Requirements: 

 

High school diploma or GED. Completion of a state-approved CNA certification training course.

BLS certification from the American Heart Association
