About the role

The Team:

Statewide Mental Health Services (SMHS) is committed to building a Lived Experience workforce that influences systems change and creates opportunities for individuals with serious mental ill-health and their families/carers to live a meaningful life. 

As members of our multidisciplinary teams, some of these workers provide one-on-one peer work to consumers and their families/carers, while others work in leadership, supervision/mentoring, and systems support roles. All Lived Experience workers, regardless of where they work in our services, are a resource for change.

The Role:

The Consumer/Family/Carer Peer Worker upholds the Lived Experience values and principles to encourage recovery-focused, person-centred, and strengths-based approach to all aspects of work. Use their lived experience, recovery experience, personal experience to support families and friends and to share experiential knowledge to persons attending the service. 

Please note work unit can be negotiated between Safe Haven and Integrated Hub.

You will need:

  • Ability to use lived experience of mental illness to promote recovery and enhanced individual outcomes for clients of mental health services.
  • Demonstrated understanding of peer work best practice, the values that support peer work and the impact of mental illness on people’s lives.
  • Commitment to work collaboratively and effectively with multiple key internal and external stakeholders including consumers, carers, family members, and public, government and community service providers.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term, casual, position working as and when required, commencing as soon as possible for approximately 24 months. 

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $67,193 to $72,126 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

Plus 25% Casual Loading - Equivalent of $42.34 to $45.45 per hour.’

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  • Personal experience of mental illness and use of clinical mental health services
  • Current Driver’s Licence

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or willingness to work towards the same
  • Evidence of knowledge, skill and experience in the recovery approach
