SUMMARY

As a Payroll Specialist, reporting to the Controller, you will play a pivotal role in managing end-to-end payroll processes for both the United States and Canada. We are seeking a dynamic individual who thrives in navigating a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, as you will be an integral part of our fast-growing startup. You will actively contribute to the continuous improvement of payroll processes, leveraging your expertise to build and enhance systems for greater efficiency and effectiveness. This role is a hybrid role based out of New York.  

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Collect timesheet data and payroll information. 
• Enter data into payroll and administrative databases and software programs. 
• Calculate wages, benefits, tax deductions, commissions, etc. 
• Make adjustments in pay for raises, bonuses and commission 
• Onboard and offboard employees in payroll and administrative databases 
• Prepare and process paychecks for salaried employees 
• Maintain accurate records of payroll documentation and transactions 
• Respond to payroll-related inquiries and resolve concerns 
• Perform account balance and payroll reconciliations 
• Prepare periodic payroll reports for review by management 
• Responsible for monthly expense reports 
• Payroll related journal entries as part of month end close 
• Preparing Guidelines for employees 

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

• Associate or bachelor's degree in business or accounting preferred 
• Experience managing payroll for at least 100 employees, ideally salaried employees 
• Knowledge of different types of payroll systems including PEO’s 
• Proven experience in a payroll position in a fast-paced environment required
• Strong knowledge of tax and wage laws
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong computer literacy including Microsoft Office applications
• Exceptional multitasking and organizational skills
• Able to work effectively with minimal supervision
• Accounting knowledge preferred
