Payroll Manager

Valet Living is seeking a Payroll Manager to lead with precision, integrity, and operational excellence. Reporting to the Senior Director, Accounting Operations, this role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and seamless associate experience. From complex transactions and system audits to process innovation and cross-functional collaboration, this leader will drive efficiency, mitigate risk, and deliver high-quality payroll operations that support the business.

Compensation & Work Environment Details:

• Salary Range: $85,000 - $100,000
• Bonus Target: 10% of annual salary
• Work environment: Remote

What You’ll Do:

• Lead Payroll Operations: Manage end-to-end payroll processing for a multi-state workforce, ensuring timely, accurate, and fully compliant execution.
• Safeguard Compliance: Monitor and interpret payroll laws, regulations, and best practices to ensure ongoing adherence and mitigate risks.
• Oversee Complex Transactions: Review and process bonuses, commissions, equity compensation, off-cycle payments, and statutory deductions with accuracy and integrity.
• Maintain System Integrity: Conduct regular audits, reconciliations, and data validations to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance with policies.
• Elevate Processes: Identify opportunities for automation and process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and associate experience.
• Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with HR, Finance, and IT to resolve issues, integrate data seamlessly, and support business objectives.
• Vendor Management: Serve as primary liaison for payroll vendors, ensuring service-level agreements are met and high-quality support is provided.
• Develop the Team: Supervise, coach, and develop payroll team members through feedback, training, and career growth opportunities.
• Deliver Insights: Prepare and analyze payroll reports to support internal stakeholders, audits, and financial reconciliations.
• Document & Standardize: Maintain payroll policies, procedures, and workflows to drive operational consistency and compliance.

What We’re Looking For:

• Experience: 7+ years of progressive payroll experience, including multi-state payroll; 2+ years managing a payroll team.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Human Resources preferred.
• Certification: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) required.
• Tech Savvy: Experience with Workday Payroll is required; strong system knowledge and ability to identify automation opportunities.
• Compliance Knowledge: Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll regulations, taxes, and reporting requirements.
• Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret payroll data, conduct reconciliations, and provide actionable insights.
• Leadership: Proven ability to manage, motivate, and develop a high-performing team.
• Confidentiality & Integrity: High level of discretion when managing sensitive payroll and associate information.
• Analytical Person: Adept at resolving discrepancies and addressing payroll issues quickly and effectively.
