Summary
The Payroll and Tax Lead will be responsible for accurately and timely processing of US payroll taxes and assist with payroll processing and reviews for both Canada and US exempt and non-exempt payrolls. This role will work closely with the rest of the payroll team ensuring processes are properly documented and followed as well as continuously looking for areas of improvement. The Payroll and Tax Lead must be capable of handling more complex payroll questions regarding taxation laws and regulations. You will partner with internal payroll, internal management, and outside partners to achieve the success.
Responsibilities
- Subject matter expert on all payroll processes and procedures, including but not limited to, tax processing/reconciliation, Amendment and year end reconciliation and filing, researching and resolving tax notices, documenting and updating procedures, etc.
- Serving as a liaison between payroll, Payroll provider and government agencies. Responsible for the set up of all payroll tax related codes, in order to ensure an accurate payroll tax reporting, including analysis as well as answering all payroll tax related questions concerning payroll entries.
- Collaborates with the Payroll team, HR Business Partners, Field Services, Shop Supervision and Department Management to gain efficiencies in all Payroll processes.
- Run and review payroll reports for accuracy and contact various location personnel for clarification when needed. Import and export interface files and correct out of balance situations.
- Ensure company compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Stay current on payroll laws that could have an impact on our business.
- Analyzing data to determine root causes and working with team on continued process improvement.
- Review/monitor inbound/outbound interfaces between 3rd Party vendors (tax, garnishments, benefits, etc.)
- Responsible for backing up the processing of several payrolls in a unionized complex manufacturing company with U.S. multi-state and Canadian provincial payroll.
- Develop and maintain payroll metrics for business level reporting.
- Assist with Payroll related testing as required for all configuration changes, and improvements moving forward.
- Assist with creating and maintaining training materials in order to educate staff members, supervisors, and employees to be self-sufficient with all payroll tools and processes.
