Essential Job Functions
- Efficiently register inpatients, obtaining complete and accurate information and distributing forms to appropriate departments. Includes Acute, SNF, IMC, Respite, and Hospice.
- Efficiently register outpatients, obtaining complete and accurate information and instructing patients in direction of appropriate department.
- Check for accuracy and typographical errors during registration.
- Conducts Insurance Verification using automated capabilities.
- Conduct pre-registration activities to assist in reducing wait times.
- Promptly phone insurance companies to pre-certify inpatient and same day surgery patients, as well as some outpatient procedures.
- Obtain proper signatures for consent of treatment, authorization of release of information, and assignment of benefits.
- Verify, on a daily basis, accuracy of admissions.
- Contact Utilization Review Coordinator, when necessary.
- Maintain scheduling for outpatient clinic appointments and interact with physicians in a professional, approachable manner. FAX schedules to appropriate clinics and deliver to appropriate hospital departments.
- Distribute admissions papers to appropriate departments, including maintaining copies in the Patient Registration department.
- Receive and interview incoming patients or relatives to obtain pertinent data for pre-registration documents; pre-certify with insurance, when necessary.
- Initiate pre-admit patients for their SDS or inpatient stay.
- Pre-register outreach clinic patients and get packets ready for the day of service; make reminder phone calls.
- Provide assistance to Emergency Department, as requested by the RN, which may involve/require some direct patient contact and/or care.
- Conducts Medicare Medical Necessity checking using Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) automated capabilities.
- Conduct point-of-service collections.
- Perform pre-registration for rehabilitation, same-day surgery, medical imaging and other departments as assigned.
- Participants in Key performance indicators including Point-of-Service Collection (e.g. 2% of overall net revenue), Pre-registration verified at 100% and Registration accuracy greater than 95%.
- Adequately perform all other duties as deemed necessary for the continued viability and success of the department and organization as a whole.

Education
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) : Required
- Associate’s Degree Preferred, Field of Study: Health related field
