JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Student Laboratory Assistant
Huck Institute - CSL Behring Fermentation Facility
Position Overview:
Responsibilities in this position will include being involved in bioprocessing activities including fermentation, separation process (cell lysis, centrifugation, filtration), purification of bio-based products, and performing analytical procedures.
Job Description and Requirements:
- In this position the student researcher will be trained on equipment, processes, techniques, and fundamental principles of microbial fermentation and bioprocessing.
- This position will involve training on equipment to help setup and run fermentation equipment, perform routine calibrations and validations, and additional laboratory work.
- Will be trained on how to use and interpret analytical equipment and results (including liquid chromatography).
- Training for use of downstream processes (centrifugation, cell disruption, freeze drying, tangential flow filtration, etc.)
- Will be required to go through Penn State Laboratory safety training via PSU-EHS.
Preferred Skills:
- General laboratory experience (Chemistry or Biology Lab courses)
- Use of basic computer software such as Microsoft Office programs
