Department: Building, Grounds, & Maintenance
Reports To: Director of Buildings, Grounds, and Maintenance

Pay: $15 per hour
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, part-time


Healthy Kids is looking for an experienced, skilled, detail-oriented, self-starter to occupy the position of Paint Assistant for the company. The position is responsible for assisting in various painting tasks at our facilities in Fishkill, NY. Occasional work at other centers in the area may be assigned on an as-needed basis. Further, this position is responsible for reporting any issues with the building that are noticeable during painting tasks, maintaining painting equipment, and ensuring that all painting work is done to a high standard.

This position is accountable for ensuring the quality and aesthetics of our facilities' painted surfaces, upholding the standard expected by our parents and staff here at Healthy Kids Programs. The Paint Assistant will align his/her scope of work with the Healthy Kids Mission while incorporating Healthy Kids Core Values as the guiding principle for all work activities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Painting Requirements of Facilities are as follows:

  • Preparing surfaces by washing walls, filling holes, and removing old paint.
  • Mixing paint to achieve the desired color and texture.
  • Applying paint or other finishes using brushes, rollers, or sprayers.
  • Painting the interiors and exteriors of buildings, including walls, ceilings, doors, windows, and trim.
  • Applying primers or sealers to prepare new surfaces for finish coats.
  • Removing and covering fixtures, furniture, and other items before painting.
  • Cleaning up painting tools and supplies at the end of each shift.
  • Ensuring all painted surfaces meet company standards for quality and appearance.
  • Monitoring inventory levels and reporting when new paint, tools, or supplies are needed.
  • Assisting with touch-up painting as needed.

Maintenance Requirements of the Daycare (as related to painting) are as follows:

  • Conducting routine inspections of painted surfaces and equipment.
  • Assisting with other maintenance tasks related to the upkeep of painted surfaces.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Basic knowledge of paint types, finishes, and their applications.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Proven experience in painting and surface preparation.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Skilled in the use of painting tools such as brushes, rollers, sprayers, and scrapers.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and touch-up tasks on painted surfaces.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
  • Eye for detail.
  • Professional presentation and attitude.
  • Ability to maintain focus while working individually.
  • Strong time management skills

Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of the organization. Ability to communicate effectively with internal staff members including program staff.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
