Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Outpatient Infusion Staff RN assumes responsibility and accountability for designated patients undergoing chemotherapy, other medication infusions as well as blood transfusions and phlebotomies, using the nursing process.  Provides care to patients according to Marshall Medical Center’s (MMC’s) standard of practice.  The OP Infusion RN validates that the patient is physically and emotionally ready for the infusion or other procedures providing pre and post treatment patient and family education. Maintains good public relations by interacting with patients, visitors, physicians and other staff members in a friendly and professional manner.  Functions as the patient’s advocate at all times.  Oversees the performance of any non-professional whose activities impact their patient’s care.  Ensures the safe handling of infectious or hazardous material to protect all patients and employees.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Current California Registered Nursing (RN) license required. 
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification and IV start competency verification required
  • National Oncology Nursing Certification (ONC) strongly preferred.

Knowledge:

  • Current knowledge of oncology nursing care required. 

Skills:

·Has the physical and mental health sufficient to accomplish duties of a RN, able to meet the pharmacology requirements of MMC and has computer familiarity. 

·The ability to achieve results in the face of multiple challenges 

·The ability to impact and influence others to achieve positive results 

·The ability to effectively question authority and recommend alternatives

·Must have a high level of integrity and a strong concern for patient/family satisfaction

·Comfortable with regularly verifying and processing insurance eligibility and obtaining authorization requests, including verifying personal credentials with external partners to obtain this information (e.g., ID.me for identity verification for VA insurance coordination).
