Job Summary:
The Operations Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring all manufacturing operations are performed efficiently, effectively, and in compliance with established procedures, policies, and regulatory requirements. This role involves supervising production staff, coordinating workflows, monitoring product quality, maintaining equipment performance, implementing safety protocols, managing inventory levels, and reporting on key metrics to management. The successful candidate should possess strong leadership skills as well as excellent communication abilities both written and verbal. They must also demonstrate problem-solving capability along with attention to detail when handling complex tasks related to production processes or customer service issues.
Responsibilities:
Supervise daily activities of production personnel including scheduling shifts/breaks, assigning jobs, monitoring attendance records, conducting performance evaluations, disciplinary actions if necessary, etc.
Coordinate workflows between departments such as receiving raw materials from suppliers; preparing finished goods for shipment; inspecting products prior to packaging; loading/unloading trucks; cleaning equipment after each shift ends; etc.
Monitor product quality by checking samples against specifications using various testing methods (e.g., spectrophotometry, chromatography) and documenting results accordingly.
Maintain equipment performance by performing regular maintenance checks on machinery used in manufacturing process steps like cutting, grinding, mixing, filling, sealing, etc.
Implement safety protocols by enforcing proper lifting techniques; providing protective gear; training employees on hazardous waste disposal procedures; conducting regular inspections of work areas to identify potential hazards and taking corrective action where needed.
Manage inventory levels by tracking stock quantities through computerized systems; ordering replacement parts when necessary; adjusting production schedules based on available resources.
Report on key metrics such as productivity rates, labor costs per hour worked, downtime causes & solutions, defect rates, etc., to upper management.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required provided equivalent experience exists.
Minimum three years’ experience working within a manufacturing environment preferably in a supervisory capacity.
Strong organizational skills essential for effective time management and resource allocation decisions.
Excellent interpersonal skills needed to communicate effectively with both internal stakeholders (i.e., coworkers, supervisors, managers) and external ones (customers).
Ability to multitask while remaining calm under pressure.
Attention to detail important for accurately recording data related to production processes, quality control measures, inventory levels, etc.
Problem solving ability necessary to troubleshoot issues arising during normal operation or unexpected events like machine breakdowns.
Computer literacy required for utilizing software programs designed specifically for manufacturing environments.
