Job SummaryThe Nursing Support Services (NSS) Team Lead is responsible for providing support to the NSS department in overseeing five lines of service: Medical Couriers, Health Unit Coordinators, Patient Transporters, Equipment Technicians, and Rovers throughout the hospital and assigned campuses.

Job Specific Responsibilities
• Perform team lead responsibilities such as supporting patient transport operations such as steps to success/bi-annuals, conducting Health Unit Coordinator chart audits, rounding on units as needed, assisting with hand hygiene audits, and providing coaching and mentoring to team members.
• Coordinate quarterly one-on-one meetings (O3s), assist with 90-day evaluations, and support the completion of annual performance reviews.
• Manage the on-call phone, respond to call-in requests, and assist the supervisor with staffing decisions during the shift and update staffing grids.
• Performs clerical activities required to coordinate assigned department for patient care procedures.
• May coordinate bed movement and department equipment in accordance with hospital policy and DNV.
• May be responsible for the transportation of medical items to/from labs, hospitals, clinics and other healthcare facilities.
• May be asked for deliver patients, equipment, medication, lab specimens, and paperwork from one location to another within University Medical Center, the medical Office Plaza, the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and other facilities.
• Serves as a rapid response team member trained as a health unit coordinator (HUC), a transporter, and as an equipment technician in order to assist in any capacity in Nursing Support.
• All other assigned duties as requested.
Education and Experience
• High School Diploma or GED
• + 1 year experience in a hospital setting.
• If external candidate, will be trained in the HUC, Transport, Medical Courier, and ET Roles.
Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations
• Valid Texas Drivers License. Driving record must allow for insurability under UMC insurance policy.
• BLS CPR must be completed within 90 days of hire into the role.
• Must be Safe Patient Handling Certified within 90 days of hire into the role.

Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
This position will interact with patients and their family members, and health care providers.
Physical Capabilities
This work is both active and sedentary. Subject to the inside hospital environment. This position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
Environmental/Working Conditions
Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions that may include varying temperatures.
