Description
Serves as support personnel following regulations for the practice of Nursing Assistants including assisting with patient admissions, patient procedures, care and maintenance of procedural instrumentation, discharging patients, chart preparation, medical records, assisting providers and other personnel as needed, and other collateral duties.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist recovery nurse in recovery room during surgery
- In Charge of having patient post-op sheet ready for every surgery day
- Works with the material coordinator to receive and unload supply shipments and keep PO’s organized
- Helping the front desk with chart preparation and front desk duties as needed.
- Opening all boxes
- Helps in Recovery on surgery days
- Assist patients from the OR to recovery when time allows
- Post-op instructions
- Printing post-op instructions
- Prepares charts for RN audit
- Files charts after audit
- Scans and batches all surgery data by the end of the day
- Fax Co-managed charts
- Maintains clean workspace in Recovery
- Wheels patients to the car when needed
- Assist recovery RN as directed and needed
- Restocks recovery
- Helps with admin duties on non-surgery days
- Pulls and files charts
- Prepare paperwork with assistance
- Pulls and prepares including pre-surgical audit for Yag surgery charts
- Assist the front desk coordinator as directed
- Assist in deep cleaning of the surgery suite
- Assist with Yags
- Assist in monthly deep cleaning of the surgery suite
- Keeps work area clean and stocked with supplies
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and practice guidelines
- Maintain positive working relationships with all staff members
- Other duties as assigned
Essential Skills and Abilities:
Clinical Skills
- Uses knowledge of medical record policy and procedures.
- Actively participates in medical records QAPI.
- Demonstrates compliance with abuse reporting responsibilities.
- Identifies vital patient care needs and prioritizes accordingly.
- Coordinates patient care with other team members.
- Keeps work areas clean, tidy and properly stocked, free of soiled equipment.
- Documentation reflects the effectiveness of care/intervention.
- Reports abnormal or unexpected outcomes or observations to RN and/or physician.
- Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic technique.
- Assists provider with procedures as directed.
- Listens respectfully, gives feedback directly, honestly and talks with others to clarify differences.
- Utilizes translation services when needed.
- Utilizes appropriate services when needed to communicate with employees and patients with speech and hearing disorders.
- Effectively communicates and interacts with patients, their family, and other external and internal clients (including fellow employees) from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrates a willingness to look at new ideas and work in a changing environment.
- Understands, verbalizes and participates in the quality improvement process.
- Supports initiatives designed to improve individual and organizational performance.
- Identifies and reports suspected child, spousal/partner, and elder abuse per protocol.
Skills/Knowledge/Ability:
- Interpersonal: Above average communication skills. Professional attitude. Maintains awareness of the OR schedule to assure an effective, safe and functional environment. Assumes responsibility for competency of practice and takes initiative for professional development and continuing education.
- Critical Thinking: Ability to assess, prioritize, plan and implement patient care within the scope of practice.
- Knowledge: Aseptic and sterile technique. Maintains knowledge of current technical practice.
- Machines, Equipment, Work Aides: Computer, printer, copier, telephone and fax. All standard admitting supplies and equipment. Standard medical supplies used within scope of practice.

Requirements
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or GED. Completion of Nursing Assistant certification program. Current BLS.
