The purpose of this position is:
- Alters, repairs, and builds components for high precision, hot runner molds for plastic components for the medical industry using lathes, EDM’s, grinding, milling and various pneumatic and electrical hand tools.
- Disassembles, cleans, repairs, and reassembles injection molds.
- Assists other Mold Technicians in start-up and troubleshooting of mold and molding machinery.
- Works with outside tooling vendors on mold refurbishment projects and serves as a technical team member on new mold build projects.
Education:
- Formal apprenticeship in mold making or mold repair preferred.
- Must have working knowledge of molding, mold design, material flow and knowledge of mold steels and their applications.
Experience:
- 5-10 years specific mold repair experience required.
This position includes significant duties such as:
- Evaluates and performs root cause analysis of tooling problems.
- Disassembles molds and determines parts needing repair.
- Cleans mold plates and all components.
- Assembles molds, components, and hot runner systems properly without damage.
- Completes accurately and in a timely manner manufacturing related documentation in appropriate plant systems and process to include mold history log, spares inventory, and quality checks for incoming parts.
- Performs all duties to ensure compliance with GMP and plant/department safety regulations.
- Tests and repairs hot runner electrical systems.
- Checks for proper gating, venting and cooling of mold.
- Works with other Mold Technicians to troubleshoot mold and/or press problems.
- Trains and supports other Mold Maintenance Technicians.
- Makes necessary shop calculations using metric, decimal, and fractional measurements.
- Repairs intricate molds and builds mold components from detailed drawings, sketches, or verbal instructions.
- Performs other shop duties as directed by Mold Maintenance Engineering Technician.
- Polishes mold components when required.
- Polishes mold components up to A1 optical surface finish
- Works with outside tooling vendors on mold refurbishment projects.
- Works with Corning Engineering and R&D as technical team member for new tooling projects.
- Supports product teams by taking an active role in team sharing, problem solving tasks, team activities and team and plant-wide subgroups focusing on the plant goals of safety, quality, schedule and cost.
Working Conditions:
- Works in a machine shop environment where constant alertness is required.
- Frequently lifts and/or moves objects up to 25 pounds repetitively and 50 pounds occasionally.
- Exposed to fumes and high frequency noise in manufacturing areas.
- Adheres to plant safety and PPE requirements, OSHA and QSR/GMP/ISO guidelines as applicable.

The range for this position is $38.50 hourly rate - $42.25 hourly rate. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
