Overview of position:
We are looking for a Mid-Level Engineer to work at Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station in Colorado Springs, CO. The Mid-Level Engineer provides technical support for the Cyber-Hardened, Resilient Industrial Infrastructure Systems Platform (CRIISP) and Fire Alarm Reporting System (FARS). This role focuses on the operation, maintenance, and security of networking, server, and Industrial Control Systems under the supervision of the Senior Engineer (Configuration Manager/Site Lead). The Mid-Level Engineer ensures system uptime, cybersecurity compliance, and timely response to incidents while supporting continuous monitoring and reporting requirements.
An active Secret and a United States Citizenship is required to be considered for this position.
Responsibilities:
System Support & Maintenance
- Maintain and troubleshoot Cisco networking, Dell servers, VMware/Hyper-V, Windows, and Linux (Red Hat/Ubuntu) environments.
- Perform routine patching, configuration updates, and backup procedures according to severity-based timelines (critical patches applied within 7 days).
- Assist in life cycle reporting by identifying hardware/software nearing end-of-life and recommending replacements.
Cybersecurity & Compliance
- Apply Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), ACAS/Nessus scans, and configuration corrections under the guidance of the Senior Engineer.
- Support implementation of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) within eMASS.
- Maintain compliance with NIST SP 800-53 and DAF directives, documenting all security activities.
Monitoring & Incident Response
- Conduct vulnerability scans and provide results to ISSM/ISSO within 24 hours.
- Assist with incident detection, escalation, and response; report suspected incidents within 1 hour of detection.
- Monitor system logs and support continuous monitoring requirements.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate equipment inventories, patch documentation, and configuration correction records.
- Submit weekly logs, maintenance reports, and system status updates to ISSM/ISSO and the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR).
- Update network architecture diagrams, access logs, and training records as required.
Mission Essential Duties
- Support 24/7 emergency response by providing technical assistance during outages, breaches, or failures.
- Ensure 99% system uptime through redundancy, backups, and prompt response actions
Qualifications
Desired Experience/Skills:
- Hands-on experience with Cisco networking, Linux/Unix, and Microsoft systems.
- Basic understanding of virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V).
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, STIG application, and vulnerability remediation.
