Medical Technologist - MT/MLS/MLT

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Service Director and according to established policies and procedures, performs various Clinical Laboratory tests in one or more sections of the Laboratory. Analyzes and interprets test results and ensures accuracy of same. Uses technical competencies and judgment to respond and handle situations as they arise. Assists with the Laboratory PI program, ordering of supplies, developing procedures and other areas as needed. Senior technologists assume responsibility for charge duties when the Lab Service Director or Assistant Lab Director is not on-site.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Service

• Consistently supports and communicates the Mission, Vision, and Values of St. Joseph Medical Center.

• Volunteers to fill shift vacancies and accommodates schedule to meet department needs.
• Participates in PI activities by participating in teams, giving input to resolve problems 1m rove enhance operations.

• Works cooperatively with others, time permitting to accomplish other tasks as needed for the benefit of the Laboratory

• Follows the St. Joseph Medical Center Guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
• Handles, processes, tests, analyzes, prepares reports on and maintains records of specimens ana patient test results according to established policies and procedures.
• Applies knowledge on the clinical significance of test results and according to established procedures, communicates these results to the appropriate medical personnel.
• Operates, performs quality control, maintains instrumentation* calibration, maintenance and take function check on following equipment as attached.
• Be able to monitor, troubleshoot and/or take correct action.
• Inform appropriate personnel when problems arise.
• Performs and documents proficiency testing in same manner as patient samples.
• Supportive of the compliance program set forth by St. Joseph Medical Center and demonstrated by:
  1. Upholds the Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance.
  2. Adheres to and helps to enforce all compliance policies relevant co his/her area.
  3. Assures timely compliance education as requested by the Compliance Officer and/or through corporate initiatives.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Education:

• College Degree from an Accredited College in Biology or a closely related field required:
  • Associates (2-year degree)
  • Bachelors (4-year degree)

Skills:

• Technical, critical thinking and interpersonal skills relevant to area in order to effectively communicate with physicians, health team members, patients, a
