ob Purpose
The Mechanical Supervisor will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the installation, assembly, inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of mechanical systems and equipment onboard luxury yachts. The role requires strong hands-on mechanical knowledge, leadership skills, and the ability to ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and according to technical drawings and project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Installation & Technical Work
- Supervise and participate in the installation, assembly, alignment, and commissioning of mechanical systems onboard luxury yachts.
- Install and inspect mechanical components, machinery, piping, pumps, valves, ventilation systems, and other marine equipment.
- Read and interpret mechanical, piping, GA, and technical drawings.
- Ensure mechanical installations are carried out according to approved drawings, specifications, and manufacturer instructions.
- Conduct inspections and testing of mechanical systems to identify defects, leaks, misalignment, vibration, or other issues.
- Diagnose faults and determine the condition of mechanical components, systems, and equipment.
- Perform troubleshooting and coordinate corrective actions to resolve mechanical issues.
- Ensure proper alignment, fitting, tightening, and installation of mechanical components.
- Verify measurements, dimensions, levels, clearances, and tolerances before and during installation.
- Coordinate with electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and other departments to ensure proper integration of mechanical systems.
- Assist with commissioning, testing, and final inspection of mechanical systems.
Team Supervision
- Supervise and allocate daily tasks to mechanics, pipefitters, installers, and other mechanical team members.
- Monitor the team's productivity, quality of work, attendance, and adherence to project schedules.
- Provide technical guidance and hands-on support to team members when required.
- Ensure sufficient manpower, tools, materials, and equipment are available to complete assigned work.
- Train and guide junior mechanics and technicians on proper installation methods and safe working practices.
- Monitor the progress of work and report delays, technical issues, and manpower requirements to management.
- Ensure proper coordination between the workshop and onboard teams.
Quality & Safety
- Ensure all mechanical work meets company quality standards, yacht specifications, and project requirements.
- Inspect completed work and ensure defects and punch-list items are rectified promptly.
- Ensure proper use and handling of power tools, electric tools, lifting equipment, and other workshop equipment.
- Follow all company HSE, PPE, and safe working procedures.
- Identify potential safety risks and immediately report unsafe conditions.
- Ensure work areas are kept clean, organized, and free from unnecessary hazards.
- Prevent damage to yacht interiors, finishes, machinery, and other installed systems during mechanical works.
Materials & Tools
- Check materials, components, fittings, and equipment before installation.
- Ensure materials are used correctly and efficiently and minimize unnecessary wastage.
- Coordinate with the warehouse/procurement team regarding required mechanical materials, tools, and spare parts.
- Report shortages, damaged materials, or incorrect components to the relevant department.
- Ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored after use.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain daily records of work progress, manpower, completed activities, and pending works.
- Report technical problems, delays, defects, and required corrective actions to the Production Manager.
- Assist with preparation and completion of inspection and testing records.
- Support yacht commissioning, handover, and final snag/punch-list activities.
- Ensure all assigned work is completed within the agreed project timeline.
Requirements
Proven experience as a Mechanical Supervisor, Mechanical Foreman, Marine Mechanic, Shipyard Pipefitter, or Marine Equipment Installer.
Previous experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, marine engineering, yacht building, or a similar industry is highly preferred.
Experience working on luxury yachts is an advantage.
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, marine equipment, piping, pumps, valves, and related components.
