Job Description
AECOM is seeking an Entry-Level Mechanical Engineer to be based in our Arlington, VA office.
This position is expected to begin on June 2026.
The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the following items:
- Performs specific portions of a broader assignment under the mentoring of an experienced engineer.
- Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
- Prepares designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings and construction drawings.
- Evaluate, select, apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and judgement based on experience to design HVAC systems in buildings using building information modeling.
- Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
- Performs work in accordance with the agreed-upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
- Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete the primary design elements for engineering works.
- Performs comparative analysis of system configurations and evaluates building performance metrics through advanced energy simulation and modeling software.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related field.
- Due to the nature of work, U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Passed Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (EIT / FE)
- Experience utilizing industry standard software packages such as AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam (pdf editor), or similar.
- Full understanding and ability to complete accurate and coordinated project design assignments with the ability to review team member’s work for quality.
- Experience sizing ductwork systems and modeling in 2D and 3D platforms.
- Experience sizing hot water, condenser water, and chilled water piping systems and modeling in 2D and 3D platforms.
- Knowledge of ASHRAE Standard 62.1 – Ventilation and Acceptable Indoor Air Quality.
- Knowledge of ASHRAE Standard 90.1 – Energy Standard for Buildings.
- Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
- Comfortable working in a high energy environment with frequent deadlines.
- Successfully performed the role of a design engineer on various projects.
- Good interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
Additional Information
- Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
- Travel is required for this position.
- This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in Arlington, VA. The selected candidate must be available to work in Arlington, VA on a scheduled basis.
