This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was crafted from the beginning to be human-capable.
As part of a small, hard-working, and accomplished team of experts you will own the design, development, and test of fluid systems for various spaceflight systems. You will share toward the team’s impact on all aspects of fluid systems design, operation, and project management. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedication and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.
Responsibilities:
- Applies engineering techniques to craft, install, modify, analyze, repair and mechanical systems hardware with an emphasis on composite structures
- Design flight and development hardware to be built and assembled internally and at external suppliers
- Collaborate with many internal team members to define requirements, dependencies, and schedule needs associated with delivering mechanical systems hardware
- Work with manufacturing and M&P (Materials and Processes) team to ensure manufacturability of new hardware
- Support build startup at vendors or internally, including tooling reviews
- Review build documentation to ensure compliance to hardware requirements
- Disposition nonconformance during production
- Travel to support internal and external production up to 20% of the time
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or relevant field from ABET accredited school
- 4+ years of experience with design and analysis, especially with composite structures
- Familiarity with composites and related materials (prepregs, fibers, resins, cores, adhesives, coatings, etc.)
- Hands-on experience, including composite fabrication experience
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills to balance small and large projects with a diverse group of customers
- Ability to work cooperatively with teams of diverse skills across large geographic distances.
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
- Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with composite aircraft, launch vehicle, spacecraft, or satellite design and development
- Experience with polymer based composite part development and qualification
- Experience with nonconformance disposition
- Experience with composite repair definition
- Experience working with external vendors
- Experience defining or crafting composite fabrication tooling
- Experience with design for manufacturing
- Proficiency in 3D CAD programs (Creo Pro/E & Catia preferred).
Compensation range for on-site WA applicants 111,690 - 156,366
