OnsiteMechanical Power Conversion has an exciting opportunity for a driven and ambitious future leader. Mechanical Power Conversion (MPC) is growing due to high customer demand and needs a Mechanical Design Engineering Co-Op working in the gearboxes, starters, and pump product line. Our design engineering Co-Ops provide design, analysis, testing, and verification / validation support of gas turbine engine mechanical power conversion systems, including gearboxes, pumps, starters, and blowers. MPC is on the lookout for an ambitious candidate who is a superb communicator with strong technical skills and who wants to make an impact on the aerospace industry.
This position is for a spring/summer co-op and will be full-time, Monday-Friday, and will run January-August; it is only eligible for current students with a graduation date past August 2025.This role is onsite, in Rockford, Illinois.
What You Will Do:
- You will review completed layouts and drawings to ensure clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
- You will communicate with the other engineering personnel to coordinate the interrelated design and ensure project completion.
- You will support a Design lead in the creation and review of components, calculates stack-up of detail components, and performs analysis to substantiate model and print definition.
- You will resolve design problems of difficult scope to ensure project completion. Engage with manufacturing and engineering counterparts to collaborate on production problem solving opportunities.
- You will be utilized as an individual contributor diagnosing and solving problems and building engineering capabilities.
- You will follow common procedures and standard work across the organization to optimize efficiency and quality of work performed.
What You Will Learn:
- You will learn to develop data and makes layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal.
- You will learn to design components or portions of functional systems with assistance of experienced contributors and brainstorming technically advanced prototypes using computer design and engineering systems.
- You will learn to develop data and makes layouts, sketches, and notes for design proposals.
- You will learn to investigate pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost.
- You will learn to design, develop and test metallic or non-metallic structures or materials and their related fabrication processes for use in engineering designs.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Active Security Clearance is preferred.
- Experience with manufacturing techniques is preferred.
