HybridCollins Aerospace is looking to fill a Mechanical Design Engineering position within the hydro-mechanical, actuation & pneumatic valve design group. In this role, you will participate in product development activities, conducting tests, and creating parts, designs, or sketches, while adhering to Mechanical Engineering design, safety, and qualification standards.
The hydro-mechanical, actuation & pneumatic valve design group oversees various hydro-mechanical components such as jet fuel controls with functions like flow division, fuel metering, pressure regulating, high-pressure relief, as well as fuel-draulic actuators and pneumatic valves including butterfly, in-line, and check valves. This position emphasizes development, requiring detailed component requirements analysis, specification reviews, and the creation of physical components considering factors like performance, weight, envelope, and cost. Creative solutions are often necessary to address competing requirements.
Our team utilizes advanced 3D analysis such as Finite Element Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics to create the most critical components.
May be eligible for relocation.
Primary Responsibilities:
Ensures novel ideas and implementations are captured and protected using applicable IP processes and tools.
Design major components or major portions of functional systems or technically advanced prototypes using computer design and engineering systems.
Develops data and makes layouts, sketches, and notes for components as well as facilitating manufacturing improvements.
Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost.
Perform 1-D hand calculation analysis and complex 3-D simulations to aid in analysis of performance requirements.
Generate solid models of components using 3-D modeling software such as NX Unigraphics to aid in packaging and weight estimations.
Develop, test, and verify new analysis methods where applicable to improve the state-of-the-art capability of Collins Aerospace
Develop in-house tools where applicable to improve the ease of performing analysis.
Qualifications/Experience Needed:
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience, or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with classical mechanical design analysis (spring design, beam equations, pressure vessels, fluid flow, and thermal conduction)
Ansys Workbench (or similar) FEA, and Siemens Star-CCM+ (or similar) CFD experience
Microsoft Office Suite experience, primarily excel.
Coding (VBA, Python, or similar) experience
Knowledge of GD&T basics
Working knowledge of gas turbine engine systems
