Scope of Position:
Applies knowledge of engineering principles, physics, mathematics, and programming to develop and support advanced computer simulations for process and product improvement and understanding. Actively participates within and beyond department boundaries to resolve important process and product issues using numerical simulations and/or calculations. Enhances research, development and, engineering organizations’ capabilities and productivity through the development and transfer of new tools and methods.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Use expertise in numerical simulation, physics, mathemtiacs, and programming to prepare modeling tools and user interfaces for internal customers to use as development tools for improving and understanding product and processes.
- Use existing tools and develop new analytical and numerical models to resolve customer problems
- Correlate simulations with experimental results
- Support development and validation testing
- Partner closely with other simulation and experimental scientists/engineers across research, development, and engineering organizations
- Communicate results both orally and in written form in clear, precise English
- Protect Corning’s intellectual property by filing invention disclosures for patent application in timely fashion.
- Document important findings in internal or external, structured reports
Required Education and Skills:
- BS in physics and/or mathematics
- Experience in physics and mathematical methods. Reducing problems to simplest possible physics and solved the governing equations to deliver insight and actionable information.
- Self-starter, self- managed
- Results oriented and high commitment / energy
- Ability to work and deliver in collaborative, team environment
- Experience using and programming in numerical simulation software
- Creative, proactive, and innovative problem solving
Desired Skills:
- Experience in both Linux and Windows environments, as well as faciality with leveraging high performance computing (HPC) systems
- Experimental/lab experience (designing and/or executing experiments, troubleshooting experimental setups, using modeling and experimental results to solve problems)
- Self-starter, self- managed
- Results oriented and high commitment / energy

This position does not support immigration sponsorship.
The range for this position is $76,392.00 - $105,039.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
