Materials & Process (M&P) Engineer - Polymers
ST EngineeringAbout the role
Who WE are and where WE are going:
At MRA Systems, our employees have amazing opportunities to work on advanced technologies and systems that support thousands of customers and millions of people worldwide every day. From the first flight across the Pacific Ocean to developing highly complex structures for the most popular aircraft in the world, we have come a long way always with a can-do approach to problem solving while delighting customers with our high say-do ratio. We are looking for people with innovative ideas and the drive to help us grow into the future.
A pioneer in the production and assembly of complex aerostructures including aircraft and rocket components, engine nacelle systems, thrust reversers and advanced composite products, we apply the latest digital technologies and automation in composite design and manufacturing that are second to none. At ST Engineering MRAS, we are also rapidly augmenting our maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capabilities leveraging the company’s expanded aircraft nacelle portfolio as well as it’s materials and processing expertise.
Who YOU are and what YOU can become
As the Materials & Process (M&P) Engineer – Polymers, you will work on the Advanced Material team, on site at Middle River, supporting composite development tasks related to new material development, new process development, and/or new technology development. You will be responsible for supporting efforts from new polymer material formulation to test plan creation and early supplier development, through to panel and part fabrication and testing and production introduction. As the engineer, you will demonstrate an ability to work with limited to some supervision, and in collaboration with others, effectively interfacing and integrating their activities within the engineering organization. An ability to establish and manage multiple projects within time constraints is required. You will be responsible for timely identification and communication of project obstacles to engineering technical leads.
What YOU will do
- Support the Research and Development of next generation Composite Materials, processes, and equipment for Aerostructure applications.
- Apply knowledge of Materials Science and Engineering to develop, characterize, and test new materials and material systems.
- Support development of novel polymer systems and chemistries from formulation through to production introduction
- Utilize and maintain characterization techniques to develop critical formulation screening tools.
- Support the development of engineering processes, methods, and tools.
- Participates in a research and development environment developing new materials and associated manufacturing and application processes.
- Limited domestic/international travel may be required (up to 20%).
What YOU must bring to Succeed
- Bachelor’s degree in Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent field from an accredited university.
- Understanding of polymer structures and properties and chemical and mechanical testing techniques including FTIR, DSC, DMA and Rheology.
- 0-5 year’s related experience (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).
- Technical knowledge in one more of the areas of: adhesives, composites, metallics, polymers/elastomers, high temperature materials.
- Familiarity with 3D CAD software (CATIA, Solidworks, NX, or similar)
- Operational knowledge of materials characterization lab equipment
