Material Planner

Position Summary: The Material Planner is responsible for maintaining consistent, uninterrupted material flow from the Supply location to the customer. The Material Planner is also responsible for releasing work orders to production, internal/external communication of inventory needs, communication with customers of material shortages, communication with the buyer various needs regarding vendor, and evaluating customer purchasing trends. The material planner will be responsible for managing the customers’ inventory levels and scheduling production to maximize the facility’s operating efficiency. The Material Planner reports directly to the Operations Manager/Material’s Manager of the Supply facility with a dotted line report to the Home Office Materials Department.

As successful material planner should be able to support and optimize operations via integrity, professionalism, production capability, operational support, process excellence, and continuous improvement.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Develop a world class material planning discipline to support ERP initiatives

• Work and communicate collaboratively with the other disciplines within the supply organization

• Determine required materials for production and to meet the customer’s planned stocking levels

• Resolve material shortages, backlogs and other potential schedule interruptions

• Operate and order within the supply contractual terms

• Review vendor created backorders and develop corrective actions with buyer

• Implement and abide by corporate policies and procedures

• Prepare reports and monitor inventory, material usage and efficiency

• Create strategic solutions to improve material flow at multiple levels

• Recommend product substitutions based on material shortages

• Manage the customer’s inventory positions of off minimum and maximum SKU levels.

• Create production schedules to maintain acceptable stocking levels at the customer location and promotes operational efficiency.

• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree/equivalent experience in Supply-Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or related field

• 3-5 years’ experience in material planning, supply-chain planning or building materials management preferred

• Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning Systems. Oracle experience preferred

• Strong analytical & problem-solving skills

• Experience and Commitment to Lean principles desired

Physical Demands

• Must be able to communicate with others via phone, email, in person.

• Must be able to exchange accurate information with others

• Work primarily involves sitting/standing, up to 4-hours at a time

Travel Requirements

• Less than 20%
