Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Scientist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in data analytics, with expertise in leading industry data systems, such as AWS, Oracle, and SQL Server.  A background in IBM DB2 database systems is also desirable. This role requires the ability to design and implement effective data infrastructure and data visualization to enhance hard disk drive (HDD) media development for next generation product technologies, including heat assisted magnetic recording (HAMR). This roles requires collaboration across Western Digital's global organization for HDD components and products. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and reliable data pipelines to support media component manufacturing analytics and reporting needs.

• Expertise in working with AWS cloud services and DB2 database systems to manage and analyze large datasets for industrial process improvements.

• Develop complex SQL queries to extract, transform, and load data to create more efficient part development.

• Create and maintain dashboards and visualizations that provide insights and support business decisions.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and deliver solutions that meet those needs.

• Ensure data integrity and accuracy by implementing robust data validation and quality assurance practices.

• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in data analytics and database technologies.

• Provide technical guidance and support to team members and stakeholders regarding data analytics best practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field with at least 10 years of professional experience. 

• Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field with at least 5 years of professional experience.

• Strong proficiency in high level data infrastructure coding in various forms, such as Java, C++, Python, R, and SQL. 

• Proven experience in developing complex SQL queries for data analysis.

• In-depth knowledge of AWS cloud services and familiarity with database systems.

• DB2 would be a plus

• Experience in designing and implementing dashboards and data visualization applications using preferred tools Tableau, Power BI.

• Ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical teams across different time zones.

• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
