The Group
Headquartered in Boston, the High Income & Alternatives group has more than $115B in assets under management (AUM). The group’s AUM are invested “across the capital structure,” including in high yield bonds, leveraged loans, convertible bonds, alternative credit, and equities. Fundamental research is the foundation of the group’s investment process.
The Role
The Managing Director, Special Situations will work side-by-side with portfolio managers and fundamental research analysts to identify, analyze, and make investment recommendations in stressed corporate debt and complex business structures with a focus on pricing asymmetry and downside mitigation. You will be negotiating and executing on terms for value creation and capital structure optimization that will have direct influence on outcomes to generate excess returns for our investors.
Located in Boston, you will report to the Managing Director of Research for High Income & Alternatives.
The Value You Deliver
• Engage in complex, fast-moving, and confidential investment opportunity processes: identify ways to enhance return outcomes through capital/corporate structure analysis and understanding of legal documents.
• Provide insight, supporting analysis, and investment/business recommendations.
• Develop and sustain outside business partnerships with restructuring advisors and legal counsel.
• Stay current and evaluate legal proceedings and regulatory developments impacting capital markets.
• Communicate regularly with the portfolio management and research teams.
• Mentor and develop talent.
The Expertise and Skills You Bring
• Strong academic background with J.D. required, member in good standing with the New York or Massachusetts State Bar Association.
• Strong business investment acumen paired with deep legal knowledge and expertise.
• Demonstrated history of relevant successful work experience for 10+ years with an investment management firm, investment banking, or venture capital/private equity firm.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to synthesize complicated analyses concisely and to articulate insightful conclusions compellingly.
• Executive leadership capability to represent Fidelity with outside counsel, advisors, corporate management teams, and investor groups.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a variety of team environments.
• Ability to travel.
