About the Job

Life360 is looking for a Manager, Software Engineering Back End for the Devices Organization to lead and manage a team in building the next evolution of our backend services to handle our ever growing user base and hardware devices fleet. You will be working alongside our Architecture and Product teams to move fast as we expand the business.

Together, we will build systems that are strong and reliable to uphold a heavy load, yet malleable to fit many product demands. Come lead coordinated efforts alongside mobile, firmware and web engineers: design and develop Cloud code in Java.

The US-based salary range for this position is $166,500- $245,000. We take into consideration an individual's background and experience in determining final salary- therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of medical, dental, vision, financial, and other benefits, as well as equity.

What You’ll Do

• Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, providing guidance, support, and technical expertise to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
• Define and execute the technical roadmap for devices cloud back end aligning with business goals and strategic initiatives.
• Drive the adoption of best practices, coding standards, and development methodologies to ensure the delivery of high-quality, maintainable code.
• Course correct where needed while leaving teams feeling empowered
• Ensure programs are executed successfully regardless of the problems or constraints that arise
• Combine technical initiatives and roadmaps into a coherent vision
• Support the adaptation of the vision and strategy, and continuously follow up providing updates and feedback to all stakeholders

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or similar quantitative field or the equivalent industry experience
• 2+ years in people management or tech lead capacity 
• 7+ years of prior professional experience working on backend and Cloud code
• Diligent in implementing and supporting services that last outwards to a year 
• Proficient in microservices and horizontally scalable architectures
• Adaptive to working on various aspects of our system for different teams
• Communicate effectively with cross-platform teammates
• Experience with high-scale, low-latency systems
• Understand how to deploy and maintain systems, ideally with Kubernetes and Argo CD
• Bonus for experience working with Kafka Streams
• At Life360 we use certain technologies, experience with these technologies will serve you well: AWS (EC2, EKS, DynamoDB, Kinesis), databases (MySql), Languages (Java, Python, PHP) 
• AWS IoT and MQTT knowledge is a plus
• IoT Device interest is a plus
