Manager Patient Safety Primary Responsibilities
- − Develop, manage and implement programs and mechanisms that foster a culture of safety
- (e.g. unit based leadership, leadership safety rounds)
- − Facilitate Patient Safety Plan
- − Assures the organization is improving patient safety in accordance with the National
- Patient Safety Goals (Joint Commission)
- − Leads Patient Safety Committee and other reporting safety committees (Med Safety,
- Radiation Safety, EOC, Med equipment etc)
- o schedules presentations, draft the agenda, report to board Quality committee
- − Coordinates and runs Root Cause Analysis and tracks corrective actions
- o Facilitate implementation, monitoring, and reporting of corrective actions related
- to serious and sentinel events
- − Coordinate and track projects and initiatives related to patient safety, including failure
- mode effects analysis.
- − Project management to insure timely completion of reports, identifying data sources and
- collecting data for established patient safety quality measures, assisting with data
- analysis, documenting and tracking data specifications
- − Administers Culture of Safety Survey, coordinates action planning
- − Assist in the development of data collection tools (e.g., surveys, chart abstraction forms)
- and manage data collection related to these tools for patient safety projects as well as
- designing data reports and displays (tabular, graphic, and other formats)
- − Gather data from internal and external (local, state, national) data sources to establish
- benchmarks and gather information on lessons learned from patient safety initiatives
- throughout the country
- − Develop patient safety education and conduct training to leadership, staff and others
- related to Patient Safety.
- − Develop contents and collaborate with Marketing/Legal/Compliance to produce Patient
- Safety Newsletter
- − Overseeing the Patient Safety Fair planning and implementation annually, as well as the
- Good Catch Program and the Daily Safety Check in and Leadership Rounding.

Education/Training/Experience:
Master’s Degree in a healthcare related field desired.
Baccalaureate degree or higher plus 5 to 10 years of clinical experience in health care is required.
- Experience in collecting, managing, and analyzing health care related data. Experience in
utilizing data for continuous quality improvement. Excellent computer literacy with significant
experience in word processing, spreadsheet, database and graphics programs. (Word, Excel,
Access.) Experience with statistical software (SPSS, SAS, Minitab) a plus.

Licenses/Certifications:
Valid Driver’s License required.
Clinical experience required, RN preferred.
Patient Safety Certification or CPPS required. Candidates without certification must be willing to
obtain within one year.
