Job Overview
GenScript is seeking a self-motivated and execution-focused leader to manage Equipment and Facility Operations at GenScript’s New Jersey site. This individual will oversee day-to-day operations while also take ownership of setting up the company’s equipment management system— defining processes and policies, implementing tools, and setting performance standards.
As GenScript grows its U.S. footprint, having robust, scalable infrastructure is essential. This role offers a rare opportunity to design foundational systems for how we manage equipment and facilities, while also driving in-house maintenance capability, energy efficiency, and cost optimization. Your leadership will directly influence operational resilience, response time, and long-term cost control. The ideal candidate thrives in a hands-on environment and is ready to shape long-term infrastructure strategy while leading a growing team.
The estimated salary range is $100,000 - $115,000, depending on the individuals experience and background.
Responsibilities
Equipment and Lab Infrastructure:
- Manage the full lifecycle of lab and facility equipment: installation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and decommissioning.
- Lead capital projects related to equipment and utility upgrades or expansions.
- Maintain accurate equipment records using CMMS (e.g., Limble).
- Build internal maintenance capability by identifying key equipment types suitable for in-house servicing, developing technician training plans, and reducing reliance on external vendors.
Facility Maintenance:
- Oversee daily building operations, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and emergency power systems.
- Develop proactive maintenance schedules to ensure uninterrupted operation of critical lab and office spaces.
- Manage service contracts and vendors to deliver timely, cost-effective support.
- Identify and implement energy-saving initiatives across HVAC, lighting, and building systems; monitor usage and optimize utility performance.
- Collaborate with Finance and Procurement to drive cost-reduction strategies, including utility efficiency, vendor consolidation, and preventive maintenance to avoid downtime.
- Support environmental initiatives aligned with company ESG goals (e.g., waste reduction, green building practices, energy benchmarking).
System and Process Development:
- Design and implement a standardized equipment management system, including preventive maintenance plans, calibration protocols, repair workflows, and asset tracking.
- Develop internal SOPs, logs, troubleshooting guides, and technical checklists tailored to GenScript’s equipment landscape.
- Establish training and certification pathways for in-house technicians to safely and effectively maintain core equipment categories.
- Evaluate service contract dependencies and gradually transition suitable tasks to internal teams, with clear cost-benefit analysis.
Team Leadership
- Manage and develop a team of reports across equipment and facilities functions.
- Provide clear goals, coaching, and performance feedback.
- Foster a culture of ownership, reliability, and cross-functional collaboration.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Serve as the main point of contact for Operations, Production, QA, Procurement, and EHS regarding equipment and infrastructure needs.
