About the role
The Manager of Clinical Documentation reports to Director of Clinical Quality Improvement. This individual manages the daily activities of the Clinical Documentation Specialists group. Activities include oversight of functions, processes and procedures, staffing schedules, department education and reporting of the processes and outcomes to Quality Improvement leadership and other and committees.

- Manages the CDI staff: Management of daily activities of the Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS) team: schedules staff; provides work direction and training/mentoring; ensures timely completion of assignments and performance evaluations. (20%)
- Validates and improves quality of query activities; provides feedback to the director on operational concerns; provides feedback to Physician Advisors on provider response issues; assists with physician in-services as needed. (20%)
- Reviews and analyzes data and reports to evaluate progress and helps initiate process improvements. Reports updates and team progress to appropriate committees. (20%)
- Works closely with the Coding and CDI staff to resolve discrepancies between working and final DRGs, and coordinates efforts with coding/HIM/UR and other departments to ensure the coded record reflects the the acuity of patients and level of provider care. (20%)
- Develops and implements on-going CDI nurse and physician education and training programs to solve coding and documentation issues. (10%)
- Acts as leadership resource for the team; supporting, fostering and assuring the continued professional development of group/individual skill sets and comptencies. (5%)
- Assists with departmental budget annually as requested by QI Director (5%)
LEVEL OF EDUCATION
Minimum:
- Associate's Degree Nursing
Preferred:
- Bachelor?s Degree or highter in Nursing
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Minimum:
- Current RN License
Preferred:
- Current RN License and CCDS certification
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
Minimum:
- Basic MS office skills; including Excel, Word, Outlook. Basic proficiency in computer applications.
Preferred:
- Intermediate MS Office skills, experience with 3M CDI software, Braod knowledge of Medicare guidelines
