Job Title:

Manager, Accounts Payable, AREP

Pay Details:

The annual base salary range for this position in California is $100,000 to $120,000 per year. The starting pay for the successful candidate depends on various job-related factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, education/training, internal value, peer equity, external market demands, and organizational considerations.

The Accounts Payable Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the accounts payable team, ensuring timely and accurate processing of payables, with a primary focus on construction and development activity. This role demands a hands-on leader with a proven track record in optimizing processes, maintaining vendor relationships, and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of construction payables, including lien waivers, progress payments, and subcontractor compliance, and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. ​​

Responsibilities

Process Management and Improvement

  • Oversee all accounts payable processes, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with company policies

  • Identify, implement, and monitor improvements to streamline workflows and reduce processing time

  • Develop and enforce best practices for handling high-volume construction payables

Vendor and Subcontractor Relations

  • Manage relationships with vendors and subcontractors, ensuring timely payments while addressing discrepancies or disputes effectively

  • Ensure proper collection and review of lien waivers, certificates of insurance, and other necessary compliance documents

Team Leadership

  • Lead and mentor the accounts payable team, fostering professional growth and accountability

  • Provide training on construction-specific payable practices, such as progress billing and retainage

Accounting and Reporting

  • Monitor and reconcile accounts payable transactions, including invoice coding, payment approvals, and ledger posting

  • Prepare regular reports on payable performance metrics, aging payables, and vendor status

  • Collaborate with the accounting and project management teams to ensure alignment on budget tracking and payment schedules

Compliance

  • Ensure all payments comply with state and federal regulations, including construction-specific requirements

  • Stay updated on tax laws and regulations affecting payables, including sales/use tax and 1099 reporting

Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered

  • 5+ years of accounts payable experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role

  • Strong understanding of construction payables, including lien waivers, retainage, and progress payments

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, Procore, Yardi, or similar); Yardi / Payscan experience is preferred

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and familiarity with ERP systems

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment

  • Demonstrated success in process improvement initiatives

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for team leadership and vendor negotiations
