JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State is searching for a full time Maintenance Worker Utility - Grade 9 to join the team. Duties include:

 

• Dust, dust mop floors, wet mop floors, spot clean and vacuum rugs, runners, etc., rotate runners and clean stairways
• Operate various types of scrubbing, buffing, and shampooing equipment such as scrubbing machine, vacuum, wet-dry pick-up machine, etc., and hand tools, as required
• Sweep, scrub, strip, seal, wax, and shampoo various types of floors and floor coverings and furniture
• Pressure wash locker rooms, showers, etc.
• Set-up and clean-up chairs, tables, stages, platforms, bleachers, lecterns, etc., for cultural events, sporting events, banquets, plays, and other scheduled events at various campus locations
• Activate satellite and move A/V equipment as required
• Lock and unlock buildings, meeting rooms, classrooms, labs, offices, etc., as required
• Wash glass, mirrors, light fixtures, wainscoting, railings, toilet fixtures, etc., clean restrooms and stock dispensers
• Wash interior and exterior windows, wall sections, floor to ceiling, ceilings, venetian and roller blinds, light fixtures, window screens, etc.
• Collect and remove accumulated waste and debris from buildings, as required
• Remove, move, and/or relocate furniture, equipment, supplies and construction materials; unload incoming materials and move to appropriate locations
• Remove, replace incandescent bulbs, fluorescent tubes and starters, shades and covers (all from permanent fixtures), venetian and roller blinds, window screens, wall hangings, etc.
• Remove debris from walks and driveways; rake and remove leaves; pick up paper and other debris
• Shovel snow and chop ice; spread cinders, sand and other anti-skid materials on walks and driveways using small power and/or hand tools, tractors as required
• Mow and trim grass using power and/or hand tools including tractors
• Operate motor vehicles to transport materials, equipment and personnel between building work sites
• Collect and transport first class bulk mail to the post office
• Maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition; report unusual conditions to supervisor
• Wash and polish furniture, brass, etc.
• Assist janitorial workers as required
• Report needed repairs to supervisor

Job Requirements: Requires the use of simple writing, adding, subtracting, whole numbers and the carrying out of instructions; and the use of fixed gauges and direct reading instruments and devices in which interpretation is not required. Up to and including 3 months of effective experience.

Work Schedule: 2:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.

Days Off: Saturday, Sunday
