About the role

Full-time, twelve-month Utility/Maintenance Worker position reporting to the Director of Physical Plant. Performs activities related to providing basic maintenance/repair services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs scheduled preventative and unplanned maintenance or repair service on HVAC equipment as directed.
  • Performs simple checks and procedures to defective equipment and takes corrective actions.
  • Transports tools and equipment to and from job or work sites.
  • Painting, plumbing, carpentry, electrical and roofing repairs.                                                      
  • Repair or replace lamps and ballasts.                                                                                       
  • Picks up and delivers equipment for repair; picks up parts for repair.
  • Maintain and cleans tools, equipment, and work areas. 
  • Performs and documents routine maintenance and safety inspections.                                                     
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Exertive: Significant exertion on a daily basis.  Awkward postures and work positions: sustained postures and work positions; sustained activities require strength.  Frequent lifting (30 – 50 lbs.). Some walking, pushing, pulling on a regular basis.  Moderate exposure to dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant but not hazardous odors.  Occasional exposure to risk controlled by safety precautions.  Frequency or severity is limited.

Required Qualifications:

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.  Must have valid driver’s license, CDL preferred.

Minimum Requirements of Education and Experience:

High school/GED preferred.

Two years building maintenance preferred.

Postsecondary training in HVAC, electrical or industrial maintenance.

Starting salary is $28,400 annually ($14.56 per hour). With additional experience pay increases to a maximum of $34,100.
