Job Description:
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the daily maintenance and all mechanical aspects of the Global R&D Center. The Maintenance Technician assists in the design, fabrication, conversion and installation of machines and processes directly related to the launch of new business objectives, new manufacturing processes and qualification of new raw materials.
- Job Responsibilities:
Assists the R&D Manager with the daily maintenance and building function of the Global R&D Center. Building functions to include: Building heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, facility air compressors and equipment chill water system. - Assists with maintenance and up-keep of R&D pilot line converting equipment. Maintains records of work performed on equipment and corrective action taken. Equipment includes: flexographic printing press, web-fed die cutters/slitters, sheet-fed die cutting and creasing, hydraulic presses, folding carton gluing equipment.
- Assists with design, fabrication, conversion, operation, and training of others on the safe installation and use of packaging converting equipment in support of launching new business initiatives.
- Assists with mechanical process improvement related projects and programs.
- Maintains function and reliability of building systems, manufacturing equipment and support equipment by performing preventative maintenance; by operating and testing systems and equipment; restoring, repairing, rebuilding, or replacing faulty or inoperative components and parts.
- Assists the R&D Manager with the daily maintenance and building functions of the Global R&D Center. Building functions to include HVAC, lighting, plumbing, painting, drywall, rug and floor repairs and occasional snow removal from the building exits and entrances. Any other requested tasks from the Manager.
- Assist with safety within the facility, monthly fire extinguisher checks, eye wash stations, crane inspections and weekly forklift inspections.
- Must be capable of working independently.
- Must be willing to travel to assist with installation and/or troubleshoot packaging machinery.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Qualified candidate will have at a minimum a high school diploma or equivalent GED.
- Must have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience operating, fabricating and maintaining manufacturing equipment used in the packaging converting industry preferable. This equipment would include: printing presses, laminators, die cutters/sheeters, folder/gluers and metallizers.
- Demonstrated experience working successfully with internal and external customers.
- Preferred experience includes machine shop/machining experience working with typical machine tools including mills, lathes and other welding equipment.
- Experience in equipment and facilities maintenance with knowledge of electrical/electronic troubleshooting, mechanical repair and building repair.
- Basic computer skills and data entry experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic industrial electricity high and low voltage AC/DC.
Physical Requirements:
- Must have the ability to safely and effectively on and around large manufacturing equipment.
- Must be able to safely lift 50 lbs. regularly.
- Position requires frequently walking, standing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, climbing in and around equipment.
- Environment also includes working around hazar
