POSITION SUMMARY

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

 

KEY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Responsible for the safety and performance of all the associates in the maintenance department.

 

Responsible for maintaining safety, housekeeping and production standards.

 

Ensures all authorized associates are instructed how and when to use correct lockout/tag out procedures.

 

Responsible for maintaining the computerized maintenance department program.

 

Coordinates maintenance requirements with other department managers using work order procedure.

 

Responsible for submitting employee reviews, promotions, and disciplinary problems to Plant Manager.

 

Ensures all associates are properly trained in and knowledgeable of their job functions and safety requirements involved.

 

Maintains daily attendance record of all employees in the department.

 

Completes daily paperwork and timecards.

 

Responsible for production machine maintenance and special projects.

 

Monitors orders for all parts and supplies.

 

Corresponds with outside vendors.

 

Responsible for any other duties assigned.

 

If the Maintenance Manager is absent from the plant, the Lead Mechanic will assume all responsibilities for all maintenance activities.   

 

 

MANAGERIAL / SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Directly supervises 7 to 10 Leads or clerks and indirectly 35 to 40 skilled positions.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

 

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.

 

Vocational school in related subjects desired; demonstrated mechanical ability; six months or more related

experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Regularly required to stand for long periods; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools and controls;

reach with hands and arms.

 

Good handgrip strength is required.

 

Good hand-eye coordination is essential.

 

Frequently required to climb, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch or crawl.

 

Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and

occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

 

Work near moving mechanical part, and occasionally in outside weather conditions.

 

Exposed to high room temperatures and humidity.

 

Works near or on machine parts operating at high temperatures.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

 

Read and comprehend complex, detailed instructions and correspondence.

 

Write simple correspondence.

 

Effectively present information orally in a one-on-one or small group situation.

 

Apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions.

 

Deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations.

 

Add, subtract, multiply and divide, in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and

decimals.

 

Read a ruler in 1/32 of inch increments, dials, micrometers and various pieces of measuring

equipment to within .001 of inch accuracy.

 

Electrical knowledge of single and 3 phas
