Detroit Mobile Equipment Mechanic
Hourly pay rate $38 - $39.50 per hour
Work hours, M-F 6:45a-3p with a scheduled weekend (Sat & Sun 6:45a-3p) once a month. There is mandatory overtime that could push past the 3p leave time and mandatory call-ins (on time per week) that could have them coming in for repairs during off hours.
Job Description:
1. Ensure operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on: motors, pneumatic tools, hydraulic systems, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
2. Locate sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments such as laser alignment tools, stethoscope, tachometer, infrared camera, ultra-sound and vibration analysis tools.
3. Remove defective parts by dismantling devices, using hoists, cranes, and hand /power tools.
4. Determine changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts, using tape measures, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
5. Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, and straightedges.
6. Mechanical / Technical Understanding -lubrication, pumps, piping systems, welding/cutting (stick, mig, tig and torch), bearings and control valves.
7. Must be able to perform troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance activities necessary to keep Mobile industrial equipment operating efficiently. Tasks may include but are not limited to Electric motors, I/C Engines, Diesel Engines, pneumatic tools, hydraulic systems. Capable of reading Schematics and following diagrams, operations and parts manuals, manufacturer's instructions, engineering specifications; and troubleshooting malfunctions.
8. Must be able to schedule Mobile Equipment repairs with plant designated mobile equipment 3rd party contractor.
9. Must be able to communicate to all affected employees the status of repairs through email and continuous improvement communication boards.
10. Must be able to efficiently track equipment reliability, equipment down time, repairs costs, and assist in the fleet management.
Qualifications:
1. Safety and housekeeping are the first consideration in all activities. The employee must consistently demonstrate an understanding/compliance of all plant & departmental safety rules, standards, and model programs.
2. Report any unsafe condition or defective equipment to your supervisor immediately. Demonstrate knowledge of when, where and how to use standard and specialized personal protective equipment (PPE).
3. Must be able to perform the essential physical requirements necessary for the position.
4. Meet the essential physical requirements of the position. Negotiate steps and ladders.
5. Demonstrate ability to protect himself/herself and co-workers from potential safety hazards.
6. Responsible for performing all assignments as delegated by Supervisor.
7. Have ability to understand verbal and written instructions from plant supervision and efficiently and effectively perform assigned tasks.
8. Demonstrate the ability to cooperate with other workers in the areas of safety, quality, and production/maintenance and understand importance of completing assigned tasks and their relationship to other requirements.
9. Must have a mechanical aptitude with regard to fabrication, power/hand tool operations, welding/cutting operations, etc. and be flexible in the tasks performed.
10. Must be able to pass the USG Mechanical Skills Assessment.
11. Must be willing to pursue additional training if required to do so.
12. Must have ability to safely operate plant mobile equipment.
13. Responsible for maintaining a set of personal tools as required by the Engineering Maintenance Department and demonstrate capability of safely operating said tools.
14. Must be a self-starter and complete tasks with little guidance or supervision.
15. Must demonstrate good safety and attendance.
16. Must be able to perform requirements of Reliability Performance Model and Continuous Improvement programs.
