MAINTENANCE ENGINEER

Dauphin County Work Release is currently accepting applications for a full-time Maintenance Engineer.  An employee in this position performs repairs, maintenance, and minor construction of Work Release Center (WRC)/Probation Services (APO) structures, equipment, and premises and supervises Work Release inmates in the performance of same.  An employee in this position shall act as supervisor when the Supervisor is unavailable.  The incumbent may work various shifts as needed by the Supervisor in order to provide supervision and leadership.

An employee in this position assists in ordering and distributing cleaning supplies.  He/she assists in inventorying, classifying, storing, and requisitioning (as necessary) tools and implements sharing responsibilities for cleaning and maintenance.  Tools classified as hazardous will be stored in a secure manner and in accordance with County policy.  An employee in this position reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor.
 

He/she is responsible for the following job duties:

1. Maintains and repairs electrical devices and fixtures in the WRC/APO complex and on the premises including alarm and security systems.

2. Enforces established procedures used in the Maintenance Department.

3. Maintains an accurate tool inventory system.

4. Maintains all Safety Data Sheets.

5. Maintains and repairs all plumbing fixtures and connections in the WRC/APO complex and on the premises.

6. Assists with the operation, expansion, and maintenance of the telecommunications system, video surveillance system, security door control, information and networking systems within the facility.

7. Performs minor structural repairs to buildings and barriers.

8. Supervises use, maintenance, and repair of laundry equipment.

9. Maintains inventory and oversees distribution of maintenance supplies.

10. Supervises Work Release inmates in performance of authorized tasks.

11. Supervises Maintenance department and personnel when the Supervisor is unavailable, or as directed.

12. Supervises outside contractors, subcontractors, and service providers working at WRC/APO complex as needed or directed.

13. Assists in surveying and reporting on condition of plant and premises.

14. Consults or collaborates with contractors or subcontractors as directed.

15. Assists in the inventory, classification, storage and requisition of tools and implements.

16. Assists with daily maintenance of the WRC/APO vehicle fleet. 

17. Assists with maintaining facility grounds, including grass, shrubs, parking lot and recreation area.

18. Completes all duties in an efficient and safe manner.

19. Assists in the supervision and completion of work assignments occurring on various working shifts and days of the week.

20. Ensures common areas of WRC/APO complex are properly cleaned and maintained. 

21. Responds to emergency maintenance requests around the clock as needed. 

OTHER DUTIES OF JOB:

1. Attends meetings, seminars and training as required.

2. Performs other job-related duties as required or as directed. 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

1. Receives instruction and supervision from Maintenance Supervisor in regard to daily work duties.

SUPERVISION GIVEN:

1. Supervises Maintenance Department and personnel when the Supervisor is unavailable, or as directed. 

2. Supervises Work Release inmates in performance of authorized tasks.

3. Supervises outside contractors, subcontractors, and service providers working at the WRC/APO complex as needed or directed.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

1. Works indoors and outdoors in limited workspace with fluctuating temperatures, ventilation, and lighting.
