PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Hiring salary: $20.65/hour

OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT

The Aurora Open Space and Natural Resources Division, Open Space Maintenance Worker is an integral member of the team responsible for restoring and conserving natural areas throughout the city. This entry-level position works with a crew to complete maintenance and stewardship of public lands and public facilities in order to provide safe and healthy homes for plants and animals, as well as pleasant human visitation experiences.

The City of Aurora is pleased to offer:

  • Training assistance through our online Learning Management System as well as a Tuition Assistance Program

  • An annual bonus up to $1000 (paid in December if eligibility criteria is met) for individuals whose job requirement is to maintain a CDL

  • Boot (steel toe or other safety toe boots are required) allowance in the amount of $250.00 after successful completion of your introductory period and then yearly on your anniversary date

  • The City will provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides outstanding stewardship of the public lands under care
  • Performs maintenance and repair work on facilities and properties
  • Possesses functional knowledge of equipment operation and construction practices
  • Updates records concerning materials and equipment used
  • Maintains and enforces safety regulations and procedures
  • Implements preventative maintenance programs
  • Performs work to complete special functions with all user groups and between city departments
  • Performs snow and ice removal
  • Performs additional duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience:

  • At least 1 year related experience

Knowledge:

  • Methods, materials, equipment, and operating procedures utilized in the assigned functions
  • Hazards and safety practices common to machinery and equipment utilized
  • Snow removal procedures
  • First aid/CPR/AED

Skills:

  • Use of mobile software applications
  • Working effectively with employees and citizens
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles
  • Fulfill goals and objectives
  • Safe and effective use of equipment and supplies

Abilities:

  • Operation of equipment and tools of assigned function
  • Work independently and be self-motivated
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Handle stressful situations in a positive manner

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Current Driver's License with good driving record
  • Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Colorado Basic Pesticide Tra
