Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. seeks a motivated Machine Operator to join our Marietta manufacturing team. You will operate cutting-edge equipment and contribute to our mission of improving global health and safety.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate machines on trial runs to verify accuracy of settings or programmed control data.
- Perform calculations and establish controls to manage machinery, inputting instructions to modify programs for attaining production objectives of high quality.
- Confirm the accuracy of first setups regarding size, structure, forming sequence, etc., using test pieces and validating with the first production piece and at subsequent intervals.
- Use expertise and experience to establish the order of operations for completing components safely and with high quality.
- Review blueprints, sketches, technical drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample components to ascertain the dimensions and tolerances of final workpieces, operational sequence, and setup needs.
- Retrieve, input, and interpret drawings and other data from the computer system.
- Observe machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance results and adjust machine controls or settings as required.
- Inspect work pieces for defects and quality-related exceptions, determining the necessary actions.
- Address work-related challenges through the application of knowledge and background to sustain production and quality targets while reducing equipment wear.
- Apply bar code systems for tracking production information and timekeeping.
- Use the computer (SAP) system plant-wide to accomplish and track production data.
- Measure, count, and coordinate materials and parts to monitor production quality and volume.
- Use air hoses or brushes to remove debris from dies for quality purposes.
- Grind out burrs and sharp edges using portable grinders.
- Move finished pieces to storage areas using pallet jacks, two-wheelers, or caster-based racks.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent experience required.
Preferred Experience
- One year of experience in manufacturing, metal fabrication, or an industrial setting.
- Previous experience with sheet metal and related machinery.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to read and differentiate part numbers, labels, and work instructions.
- Standing, bending, reaching, and handling bulky parts is common to the job. Frequently lifts up to 35 pounds.
- Computer and keyboarding skills.
