LPN, General Surgery Clinic

Provides professional nursing care for clinic patients following established standards and practices. Assesses clinical needs of patient. Updates patient records as needed. 

Demonstrates responsible decision making in planning, providing, and delegating care based on assessment. 

Communicates effectively. Establishes and maintains two way communication with peers, staff, physicians and administration. 

Follows through on problems that may compromise patient care by using the appropriate chain of command. 

The clinic nurse assists physicians, nurse practitioners and other staff in coordinating patient care and functions as primary liaison between patients, staff and physicians. 

Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials; ensures cleanliness. Prepares list of medical supplies needed. 

Administers prescribed medication and treatments in accordance with nursing standards. Educates patient/family about diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition and maintenance of health and wellness.  Efficiently utilizes the clinics patient data management system (electronic or manual) to maintain accurate patient records and utilizes NHS interface in a proficient manner. 

Screens patients for appropriate information to enter into the record, assuring chart is accurate and complete prior to date of appointment. 

Updates patient record information changes, using department charting guidelines. 

Completes paperwork accurately, completely and in a timely manner. 

Safely administers any medications using the 5 rights: prepares, gives, and documents medications and IV solutions. 

Maintains current medication profiles and documents medication profiles and documents medication instruction to patient/caregiver. 

Demonstrates population appropriate care and skill sets for all patient populations. 

Performs prescribed/ordered treatments timely and without errors.
