$17.00 - $22.10The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Responsibilities:
GENERAL PURPOSE:The High-Energy-Density Physics (HEDP) Theory Group in the Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) at University of Rochester is offering paid research Internship to both undergraduate and graduate students to carry out HED science research.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The selected interns will join in the HEDP-Theory Group as Project Assistant (for undergraduate student) or Research Assistant (for graduate student) to work on a variety of exciting research projects, ranging from understanding/designing extreme HED materials, solving physics “mysteries” in HED astrophysical setting, to exploring new HED physics phenomena in planetary science. Specifics of research project(s) can be discussed between the candidates and Scientists from the HEDP-Theory Group at LLE. Students participating in these projects will gain valuable research experience, while advancing LLE’s missions of education and research excellence in HED sciences. The general research efforts may be partitioned as:
- Doing literature survey on the assigned research topics (10% effort);
- Performing large-scale simulations on high-performance computing (HPC) for the assigned project(s), with possible effort put in programing (50% effort);
- Analyzing simulation data, presenting research findings, and writing manuscript(s) for possible publication in scientific journals (40% effort).
