Wright Public Entity serves as a management company providing claims administration, risk management and loss control, underwriting, marketing, and client services in New York for the NY Schools Insurance Reciprocal (NYSIR: ‘A’ rated by Best), NY Municipal Insurance Reciprocal (NYMIR: ‘A-’ rated by Best) and Statewide Schools Health Plan. We also act as a third-party administrator for workers’ compensation for various self-insured schools and municipalities in New York.

The Litigation Claims Examiner position will be responsible for the adjustment of litigated casualty claims.

Responsibilities:

  • Investigate, analyze, evaluate, and bring to a disposition all assigned claims

  • Coverage assessment

  • Assure appropriate loss and expense reserves for all assigned losses

  • Assign and manage the activities of independent adjusters and other vendors

  • Manage, direct and work effectively with defense and coverage counsel

  • Collaborate with clients, brokers and internal departments

  • Identify risk transfer and subrogation potential

  • Reinsurance reporting

  • Preparing comprehensive claim correspondence, including coverage position communications

  • Present cases at Claims Committee and Round Table meetings

  • Attend training classes and/or secure professional designations

Competencies:

  • Possesses the ability to organize and prioritize work activities timely and efficiently

  • Possesses good written and oral communication skills

  • Possesses the ability to analyze problems, evaluate alternatives, and select the best course of action in a timely manner

  • Possesses negotiation skills

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; JD preferred

  • Minimum of five years of experience in handling litigated casualty claims, with an emphasis on General Liability, Auto and Public Entity claims in New York

  • New York General Adjuster’s license

  • Good telephone demeanor

  • Proficient use of a PC

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Occasional travel
