About the role
Position Summary
Lineman position prior to becoming Journeyman Lineman. Second Class linemen perform complex multi-phase primary voltage construction and maintenance on overhead and underground systems and equipment, with a journeyman.
Essential Job Functions
- Operating a digger derrick and bucket truck for work to be performed on electric lines.
- Operating variety of other equipment including but not limited to mini-excavators, forklifts, tractors, pole trailers, wire pullers, winches, wire tensioners, backyard machines, hydraulic pole jacks, trenchers, chain saws, and power tools.
- Performing line construction and power restoration with the use of line tools and equipment.
- Understanding multi-phase overhead and underground construction specifications.
- Performing complex multi-phase primary line construction, retirement, and maintenance on overhead and underground infrastructure, with a journeyman.
- Installing, maintaining, and removing multi-phase overhead and underground transformers.
- Possessing a thorough understanding of and installing, maintaining, removing, and troubleshooting reclosers, voltage regulators, and capacitors.
- Understanding overcurrent protection, coordination, fault current, and fusing.
- Possessing knowledge of common and uncommon troubleshooting problems and solution techniques for equipment and outages.
- Understanding multi-phase and primary metering, including associated calculations.
- Performing traffic control when necessary.
- Operating radio systems to communicate with System Operations.
- Performing DOT pre-trip inspections.
- Using technology for work processes.
- Navigating and understanding work area.
- Member relations – Apprentice D Linemen through Journeyman Linemen are the face of the co-op.
- Capable of leading crew members in the absence of the Foreman.
- Supervises and trains others as assigned.
- Performs proper maintenance and care of all material, tools, equipment, and vehicles assigned.
- Participates in various projects, as required.
- Performs other related duties, as required.
- Being attentive to safety. Watching peers' backs, professional training on safety, assisting in deliverance of tailboards, performing pole top and bucket rescues, strong and thorough understanding of TCEC safety rules and procedures, etc.
Position Requirements
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum four (4) years' experience.
- Ability to perform simple multi-phase primary line construction and maintenance on overhead and underground infrastructure.
- Ability to install, maintain, remove, and troubleshoot multi-phase overhead and underground transformers.
- Thorough knowledge of and ability to install, maintain, remove, and troubleshoot reclosers, voltage regulators, and capacitors.
- Valid Class A CDL and DOT medical card, pole top, bucket truck, and vault rescues, forklift certification, CPR and AED training, and Smith Driving training.
